Why Culture Matters in Hiring Today

What is company culture?

Company culture is at the top of the "value list" for many seeking new jobs. We define company culture as the energy and efficiency within an organization; the essence of productivity and personality within a working environment.  lycs-architecture-U2BI3GMnSSE-unsplash

Employees will spend nine hours or more every day of the workweek in a company's culture. An employee’s comfort and compatibility within an organization must mirror that of a company's success. Employees are more likely to form company strategies and goals when they are in a productive and comfortable environment. Of course, comfort comes in all forms. To some, comfort comes in the form of a laid-back office. To others, a formal office is necessary for productivity.

Is your company's culture motivational? Productive? Understanding and balanced? Cultivating an environment that represents a company's brand and values is vital to success. Maintaining these expectations means the future is clear for employees, influencing the company's path of success.

These questions, more importantly these answers, matter in the hiring process. It is essential to share with candidates what your work environment is like by outlining your culture during the hiring process.

What does this have to do with hiring?

The hiring process is flawed in that employers focus on what is on a candidate's resume; however, less than 22% consider their personality before viewing their skills.. As cnect Founder and CEO Michael Nadeau stated, "Chemistry is one of the most important things to consider while hiring, and it is impossible to evaluate chemistry through a resume."

By envisioning the candidate in your workspace, you evaluate their compatibility with your culture. Similarly, when you give a candidate a glimpse into your culture during the hiring process, they can make a more informed decision. If a prospective hire walked through the doors of your office, the interactions they see between your employees might just be a determining factor.

In conclusion, creating an environment that works for your company is the goal. Like no person is the same, no company is the same. Figure out what motivates your team and what makes them efficient. People want to feel like they are a part of something special in the workplace, and by creating an environment that is motivating and rewarding, you will attract quality applicants.
